RecordMyDesktop allows you to capture only regions of the screen that have changed. It has a commandline and an easy to use GUI (gtk-recordMyDesktop). It produces an open source therora/vorbis file using the ogg container. It is very easy to use and can be very useful when wanting to actually show what you are doing.

Installation
An updated version is located at http://getdeb.net/release/2871 if you want to use the GUI you must download the gtk-recordmydesktop as well.
For all your questions and other troubleshooting steps, head over to the recordmydesktop homepage here
After installation it is located in the gnome menu under Sound and Video > gtk-recordmydesktop
